Vision

Why invest in literacy?

If you can read this, literacy may be something you take for granted.

The silent crisis of low literacy in Canada affects us all—and the harmful costs are hidden in plain sight.

Higher literacy can boost the economic and financial success of individuals and the economy as a whole. It can reduce poverty, improve health, lift community engagement, and lead to a higher standard of living. In fact, it is hard to identify any other single issue that can have such a large payoff to individuals, the economy, and society.

The benefits of literacy are lifelong. We believe literacy is a right.

As Canada’s original charitable literacy organization, Frontier College recruits and trains volunteers to deliver literacy programs to children, youth, and adults in communities across the country. Founded in 1899, Frontier College has helped Canadians improve their literacy skills and provide the confidence they need to reach their full potential.

Our vision is to be a leading and results-driven service partner.
